Yoga is an ancient form of meditation started in India, and is widely practiced throughout Australia and all over the world. Yoga is said to be one of the best physical activities for health and well being, as it works on your body and mind together.

There are many different types of yoga practiced in today's society all over the world, however the most popular types in Australia include:

  1. Hatha Yoga (this includes 9 or more different types - focusing on stretching and breathing)
  2. Hot Yoga (room temperate gets up to about 33 degrees)
  3. Bikram Yoga (room temperature gets up to 40 degrees)

Yoga is proven to have many health benefits:

  • Builds core strength;
  • Stretches and relieves muscles of aches and pains;
  • Aids digestion and flushes out toxins;
  • It is a great form of general physical exercise;
  • It assists with mental clarity and reduces stress; and
  • It can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

Yoga provides all these benefits but is not limited to them, and will no doubt vary for each individual, but you do need to practice yoga regularly to see the true benefits. Yoga comes in many varieties so it's about finding the right style for you and getting the fast or slow paced workout that you require.
